Two benefits in January will raise money for the Kick Hunger Challenge

The Metropolitan Market Chili Cook-off kicks off at noon Saturday, Jan. 9 at the Kirkland location.

Former Seahawk Craig Terrill and Mariner great Jay Buhner will be on hand with chef John Howie for a Chili Cook-off; Terrill will also perform live music. Proceeds from the event will benefit Food Lifeline, a nonprofit where $1 provides five meals to those in need.

Competitors will need to bring their A-game to take on Howie and Terrill, three-time Kick Hunger Challenge champions. Team members from the Kirkland Metropolitan Market will compete, and guests will taste and vote for a favorite chili.

Raffle tickets cost $5 or three for $12, with the chance to win seven different gift packages. Howie’s cookbook, Passion & Palate, will be available for purchase and some will include gift cards to John Howie Restaurants. Seahawks Kick Hunger Challenge gear from Ames Bros will be available for purchase as well.

On Jan. 13,  the 2016 Kick Hunger Challenge Dinner and Auction will be hosted at SPORT Restaurant and Bar in Seattle. The dinner will commemorate the upcoming Superbowl 50 in San Francisco with a San Francisco-themed menu. Tickets are $55, and can be purchased at Brown Paper Tickets. Dinner begins at 6 p.m.

Howie designed the “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” menu, clam chowder and sourdough bread, pickled vegetables, Ghirardelli chocolate chip, and Grand Marnier truffles. All proceeds will benefit Food Lifeline.

The Kick Hunger Auction is a friendly competition fundraiser between all 32 NFL teams to raise money for food banks across the country. Howie and Terrill co-lead the Seahawks team, which has won the national championship for the last three years. The Seahawks team raised $155,000 last year’s campaign alone.
